A Message from the OfficialsThe following are some rule changes for the 2008 season.
OT - regulation time outs do not carry over into overtime. Each team gets 1 time out for overtime
No use of any electronic devices will be tolerated on the sidelines. No cell phones or blue tooth ear pieces will be allowed. Each offense could result in a 15 yard penalty.
Sideline Control - 3 coaches will be allowed in the coaches box. The coaches box extends from the 25 yard line to the 25 yard line and is 6' deep from the sideline. The remainder of coaches and player's must remain in the team box which is directly behind the coaches box.
1st offense = flag / warning
2nd offense = flag / 5 yard penalty
3rd offense and each offense the follows = flag / 15 yard penalty.
Players cannot wear loose exposed jewelry
Mouth pieces must be colored and attach to the helmet. No clear mouth pieces allowed.
Mighty Mite Rules
Division of play: Jr. Mite: Shall consist of 7 and 8 year old players only.
Sr. Mite: Shall consist of 8 and 9 year old players
7 year olds will be allowed to play Sr. Mites
Should circumstances warrant.
NOTE: To field a Sr. Mite team you must field a Jr. Pewee team. At the August
meeting all associations must declare all Mitey-Mite teams.
Rule # 1: KICK-OFF Jr. Mite
NO Free kick (Kick-off). The ball will be taken at the receiving team’s 40yd line, first & ten
Rule #2-A: PUNTING Jr. Mite
There will be no punts the ball will be advanced 15 yards on fourth down, unless the offense wants to run a play. The offensive coach must tell the official that they would like to punt. Then the ball will be moved.
Rule #2-B: PUNTING Sr. Mite
Sr. Mite team can choose:
Rule #1: Run a 4th down play
RULE #2: Free scrimmage kicks, and a free snap to the punter. NO RUSHING! NO FAKE PUNTS. Either a team goes for it on 4th down or they elect to punt. The punting team MUST inform the officials that they are punting on fourth down.
There will not be a return of the punt. The ball will be treated as a dead ball! This means that if a punt receiver touches the ball (muff) and it rolls behind him/her IT IS NOT A FUMBLE! The punt will be blown dead were the ball comes to a rest 1st & 10 from there. If the punt receiver drops the ball and it rolls forward toward the kicking team, the ball will be blown dead at the first touching spot, 1st & 10.
All punts caught will be treated as a fair catch.
Rule #3: OFFENSE
The offense has 40 seconds from the time the ball is ready for play to align itself at the line of scrimmage and snap the ball between plays.
There will be NO unbalanced lines.
The QB can not run between the tackles.
The offensive line can have a maximum of 3-foot splits between the center, guards and tackles.
The ends can split wide.
Rule #4: DEFENSE
There must be no more then 6 defensive linemen on the line of scrimmage, defensive line must be head up (No lining up in the gap) All other defensive players must be 3 yards off the line of scrimmage at the snap of the ball.
No blitzing
No Nose guard. (Which means no player over the center).
Linebackers must be coached to read the play first.
Should an offense come out in a spread formation (4 wide) the defensive ends must drop to linebacker depth and play as linebackers.
Rule #5: EXTRA POINTS
The only extra point allowed would be an attempt to kick. Running or passing for extra points will not be allowed. The offense has forty (40) seconds to set up on the line of scrimmage, long snap the ball and attempt the kick. The ball will be placed on the 3-yard line for the snap and the tee placed on 5-yard line for the kick. The kick will be a free kick with no pressure. On a fumbled snap the holder can pick the ball up and put on the tee. A missed kick will kill the play. If goal posts are not available then there will be no extra point attempt.
Rule #6-A: COACHES Jr. Mite
Only one (1) coach from each team will be allowed on the field at any time during any play. All coaches must be a minimum of 15 yards from the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped.
Rule #6-B: COACHES Sr. Mite
Only one (1) offensive coach will be allowed on the field at any time during any play and must be a minimum of 15 yards from the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. One (1) defensive coach can enter the field between plays but must leave the field before the snap of the ball.
Rule #7: Scoreboard / Gametime
Scoreboards can be used to keep score until there is a 28 point difference. Scores must be shut off once a 28 point difference is achieved scoreboards can still be used for clock management (game time clock). Game time will consist of four 10 minute quarters of stop and go time. 3 time outs will be allowed per half.
Rule #8:
Mitey Mite players can weigh up to 104 lbs. dressed or 99 lbs. stripped. Dressed weight is defined as a player wearing cleats, game pants and game shirt. Stripped weight is wearing underwear only.
Rule #9:
All other rules will be from the National Federation of state high school association.
These rules shall be the responsibility of each coach to know and interpret. At the beginning of each game the head coaches with the referee shall go over the rules so there is no wronged interpretation of these rules.
